IIT Madras Director Faces Backlash Over ‘Gaumutra’ Endorsement in Viral Video

‘Gaumutra’ Endorsement in Viral Video: A video purportedly praising the "medicinal value" of cow urine for the prescription was made by IIT Madras's director V Kamakoti.

Antibacterial, antifungal properties along with digestive properties of cow urine were said to us news agency PTI.

During a meeting held at a Go Samrakshana Sala in Chennai, IIT Madras director, while allegedly narrating this incident to the gathering, said that one sanyasi consumed cow urine when he fell ill with high fever. When asked by Hindustan Times, there was no way to independently verify authenticity of the video.

While PTI news agency has confirmed, sources in the institution also said that Kamatkoti did not make those comments. According to PTI, they also said he is an 'organic farmer' participating at the event of Goshala and would be fathomedbetter within the entire speech.

However, the remarks were condemned by the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Karti P Chidambaram, another Congress leader, accused the director of IIT Madras of peddling pseudoscience by making such comments.

"Peddling pseudoscience by IIT Madras Director is most unbecoming @IMAIndiaOrg." he wrote while tagging the Indian Medical Association.

DMK leader TKS Elangovan also offered criticism of the comments made by the director and demanded the transfer of the person from the institution immediately.

“He must be transferred from IIT and posted at some of the GOI medical colleges. What will he do in IIT? It's related to engineering and other fields,” the DMK leader told Times Now. Such a Director should be posted in AIIMS. The GOI should immediately throw him out of IIT and appoint him as director to some AIIMS.
