Neelam Shinde Accident: MEA Intervenes in Family’s Urgent US Visa Request

Shinde, who belonged to Maharashtra’s Satara district, was hospitalized on February 14 with head, hand, and chest injuries after a major accident.

Neelam Shinde Accident: Neelam Shinde, the 35-year-old Indian student from Maharashtra’s Satara district is in a almost hopeless condition, which is due to an bitter mishap that took place in the California state in the USA.

Neelam Shinde ailments compelled her relatives into a frantic fight to keep her alive. Her dad, though an urgent need for medical help and the formalities that involved obtaining a visa for the US, continued to be in large distress for more than ten days.

Intervention was done with respect to political leaders and government officials of the land.

The 10 key things you should know about this unfolding story:

  1. Neelam Shinde, who is studying for a Master of Science in her major in California, happened to die when both a bike and a motor vehicle collided on the 14th of February.
  2. Her medical status is that Shinde ended sustaining severe multiple injuries on both her head, hands, legs and chest hence needing rapid surgeries for the same. She is in a coma.
  3. Delayed information to the family – Contrary to the normal practices, the tragedy dawned to the home of the victim in the district of Satara, Maharashtra couple of days upon the accident which is on the 16th February.
  4. The felt desperation of obtaining a visa – Difficulty in obtaining a travel document could be a very painful one to any parent, and this has been the root cause of wasting time in case of Neelam and her family ever since the alarm was raised. “Our struggle to rush to be with Neelam has been going on for the last 10 days. After the help from various quarters, we received a phone call and email about an appointment for a visa at the US Consulate in Mumbai on Friday morning,” Neelam’s uncle Sanjay Kadam told The Indian Express from Satara.
  5. High-serving dignitaries such as Molilidhar Mohol, a Union Minister, and NCP(SP) MP Supriya Sule, took interventions liberalizing the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to an extent that it was possible to assist the family.
  6. Supriya Sule posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Student Neelam Shinde has met with an accident in the USA and is hospitalized in a local hospital. Her father, Tanaji Shinde, from Satara, Maharashtra, India, urgently needs to visit his daughter due to a medical emergency. Tanaji Shinde has applied for an urgent visa to the USA and requires assistance. Requesting Hon. @DrSJaishankar Ji, @meaMADAD, and @IndianEmbassyUS to kindly look into the matter and help.”
  7. Diplomatic actions- Consequently, Indian officials have turned to their colleagues from the USA, asking for assistance in the acceleration of the visa issued addressed to the parent's father, as the person, who is in urgent need of help is the master’s student in California, Neelam.
  8. A ray of light in the visa situation – Having passed the 10-day period of uncertainty and establishment-related issues, at last the family has managed to get an urgent visa appointment at the Mumbai US Consulate.
  9. Since her father lacks one B1/B2 visa, which was requested for his ill-health and sent to the consulate to ensure his coming back if the actor did not recover, they are thinking of sending her cousin who is an IT professional and bearer of a valid passport to help the father.
  10. The case of the deceased is the last year of the five-year course, a brilliant student, and a sudden turn in Neelam's life. Last year, his wife was an orphan, and the father lived with his brother, who is a resident in Satara; the elder brother works in one of the financial firms Pune has.
