Navratri 2024: 9 Colours and Their Significance for Each Day of Celebration

For Hindus, Navratri 2024 is a festival of colours with great cultural and spiritual significance, this 9 day festival is to worship the 9 forms of Goddess Durga and is celebrated all over India with great devotion.

Navratri 2024: For Hindus, Navratri 2024 is a festival of colours with great cultural and spiritual significance. This 9 day festival is to worship the 9 forms of Goddess Durga and is celebrated all over India with great devotion.

Devotees fast, do puja and visit temples during this time to seek blessings and protection.

Shardiya Navratri will be start October 3 to October 12. Wearing a particular colour during Navratri is considered auspicious as each day has its own connection and spiritual meaning. Scroll down to know the 9 colors of Navratri and what each means!

Navratri Day 1: Orange (Shailaputri)

Shailaputri, the "daughter of the mountains" is worshipped on the first day of Navratri. As the first form of Goddess Durga, she is pure and natural. Wearing orange on this day means a person with lively and warm nature. This color radiates positive energy and uplifts the wearer.

Navratri Day 2: Green (Brahmacharini)

The second day of Navratri is for Goddess Brahmacharini, who is the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati. She did strict penance to win Lord Shiva as her husband. The color of the day is green which means nature and growth, fertility, peace and serenity.

Navratri Day 3: Grey (Chandraghanta)

On the third day of Navratri, devotees worship Chandraghanta, the married form of Goddess Parvati. Her name is derived from the half-moon on her forehead which means serenity and beauty. The color of the day is grey which means strength, resilience and ability to overcome obstacles.

Navratri Day 4: Orange (Kushmanda)

The fourth day of Navratri is for Goddess Kushmanda, the creator of the universe. Wearing orange on this day while worshipping her is believed to give you warmth, exuberance and positivity.

Navratri Day 5: White (Skandamata)

On the 5th day of Navratri they worship Skandami, the mother of Skanda (Kartikeya). She is the 5th incarnation of Goddess Durga and represents motherhood and compassion. She rides a lion and wears yellow. So the color of the day is yellow which means happiness and hope. It also means joy, brightness and happiness. Wearing yellow on this day gets you the joys, abundance and harmony of Skandamata.

Navratri Day 6: Red (Katyayani)

The sixth form of Goddess Durga is Katyayani, fierce and powerful. The color of the day is red which means passion, love and strength. Red is also the most preferred color of chunri (a traditional scarf) offered to the Goddess which means devotion and reverence.

Navratri Day 7: Royal Blue (Kalaratri)

The seventh day of Navratri is for Goddess Kaalratri, one of the destructive forms of Goddess Durga. On this day devotees wear royal blue which means richness, peace and depth. This color reflects the powerful and calm nature of Maa Kaalratri.

Navratri Day 8: Pink (Mahagauri)

Mahagauri is the 8th form of Goddess Durga, worshipped on Ashtami Tithi. Her name means extremely white, she is pure and beautiful. The colour of the day is pink, which means universal love, affection and harmony. Wearing pink on this day will give you compassion and connection, will make you gentle and nurturing like Mahagauri.

Navratri Day 9: Purple (Siddhidatri)

Maa Siddhidatri is the 9th form of Goddess Durga, known as the giver of supernatural and meditative powers. The colour of the day is purple, which means luxury, grandeur and nobility. Worshipping Navdurga while wearing purple will give you opulence, richness and spiritual strength.
