Solar Eclipse 2024: Astronomy enthusiasts and skywatchers will be able to feast their eyes on the annular solar eclipse event that will take place today October 2.
Just a few days ago astronomy enthusiasts were stunned by the partial lunar eclipse and now they will be able to admire a rare celestial event which is often known as a "ring of fire" eclipse.
The 'Ring of Fire' solar eclipse takes place on Wednesday, October 2 and it occurs when the moon's shadow falls on the sun as Earth makes a revolution around it.
Why is it called the Ring of Fire eclipse?
The moon is not that big, and it casts shadows that partially cover the star. This forms a spectacular view known as the “ring of fire.” On this day, the moon will be at its farthest position from the Sun, known as apogee, which means that the shadow is not big enough to eclipse the star.
