Mumbai Police Officer’s Triple Seat Ride on Scooter with Helmetless Biker Sparks Outrage

Mumbai Police:A police officer without a uniform was seen riding a pillion on a two-wheeler without a helmet. The bike had a police sticker. Seen in Mumbai.

A commuter clicked a photo of the scene and shared it online.

Prasad’s post with the caption “No helmet, triple seat, Police named Activa and Police in uniform. What is the fine or charge? Is this legal only for the police?” started a debate online. Social media users were outraged and disappointed with the double standards in traffic rules.

One user commented, “Rules are for everyone; why are the enforcers breaking them?” Another chimed in, “This sets a terrible example for citizens.” A third remarked, “Will this case even be registered, or is it just a daily scene in Mumbai?”

According to the official website of the Maharashtra government listing down offences and penalties for motorists violating traffic rules, a "driver of a two-wheeler involved in triple riding would attract Rs. 100 for first offence and Rs. 300 for second or subsequent offence as punishment". The compounding fee under Section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act in this case was Rs. 200.

Meanwhile, the penalty for failing to wear a protective head gear (Helmet) was stated to be Rs. 100 for first offence Rs. 300 for second or subsequent offence and the compounding fee for the offence was noted as Rs. 500.

    Over-speeding: A fine of ₹1,000 for light motor vehicles and ₹2,000 for medium to heavy motor vehicles,

    Driving while intoxicated: A fine of up to ₹10,000 and potential imprisonment,

    Using a mobile phone while driving: A fine of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000,000,

    Jumping a red light: A fine of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000,

    Driving without a license: A fine of ₹5,000 and the vehicle may be impounded,
