Mumbai Experiences Heavy Rainfall; Neighbouring Areas Affected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that during the same period, the Colaba Observatory in south Mumbai where most of the government buildings are located experienced 67 mm of rain, and the Santacruz Observatory which is close to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received 64 mm of rain.

Mumbai Experiences Heavy Rainfall

Mumbai Experiences Heavy Rainfall: The forecast from IMD that came yesterday predicted the rainfall to arrive in Maharashtra in the next two days but the rainfall was two days early on June 9.

The IMD said that some parts of Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagir will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms and have also issued a red alert for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Marathwada, and Vidarbha.

As per the previous forecast, the southwest monsoon was expected to arrive by June 11 but this time it arrived a bit early.

In a statement, IMD said, “Mumbai can anticipate thunderstorms accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall, with a probability of realization between 51 and 75 percent. Neighboring areas such as Raigad and Ratnagiri stand a higher chance of experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall.

IMD further said, “A red alert has been issued for Sindhudurg and its neighboring district Kolhapur, emphasizing heavy to very heavy rainfall in most areas.”

IMD reports also said chances of rain in some parts of Kerala by 24 hours.

The IMD said on Sunday that coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry had experienced heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that during the same period, the Colaba Observatory in south Mumbai where most of the government buildings are located experienced 67 mm of rain, and the Santacruz Observatory which is close to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received 64 mm of rain.

IMD also tweeted the amount of rainfall each state received, “Goa: Panaji 84.0mm: Old Goa 69.0mm; Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) 65.0mm, Maharashtra: Nanded 23.4mm; Aurangabad 20.2mm; Kerala: Kannur 75mm; Kozhikode 11mm.”
