Mumbai BEST Bus Crash: 7 Dead, Driver Arrested for Lacking EV Driving Experience
The police on Tuesday registered a non-bailable case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the driver of a BEST bus which met with an accident, killing six people and injuring another 43, reported the officials.

The incident happened at around 9.30 pm on Monday night near SG Barve Marg in Kurla, when the bus run by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking rammed into several vehicles and pedestrians.

As per an official, the injured are undergoing treatment at Bhabha Hospital, Sion Hospital, Seven Hills Hospital and other medical institutions, some of them have a critical condition.
The injured are four police personnel who are on bandobast duty at the time of the incident. The condition of these four is now stable, he said.
Locals immediately caught the bus driver after the incident, whose identity is Sanjay More, and the police subsequently took him into custody, he said.
He was taken to a hospital for a medical test. His blood samples were also collected to examine whether he was under the influence of alcohol, the official said.

The police have registered a case against the bus driver under sections 105 and 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, he said.
As per the preliminary investigation, the bus did not hit any structure during the incident, Police will ascertain it prior opt of checking the actual damage, the official said.
After more than five hours of the accident, BEST said "as per the initial information, the driver lost control of the bus".
The bus, then rained through pedestrians and vehicles in Kurla, and came to an end in a residential society-Buddha Colony-without stopping, as officials said on Monday. The bus is actually a 12-metre-long electric vehicle manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech and it was taken by BEST on wet lease, an official said earlier.
