MHA extended Covid-19 containment measures until June 30 countrywide

V K Paul, a member of the NITI Aayog's Health Committee, said during a press briefing here that the second wave is stabilising in most regions of the nation, both in terms of the number of cases and the positive rate, despite a sustained and high overall testing coverage that is "reassuring."

MHA extended Covid-19 containment measures until June 30 countrywide

To combat the spread of coronavirus, the Union Home Ministry, on Thursday, released a statement extending the Covid-related guidelines until June 30 to all states and union territories.

The MHA has advised states to ensure local containment measures in high caseload areas, as per a statement. It stated that the guidelines established on April 29 for the month of May will be in effect until June 30.

With the exception of a few places in the Southern and North-Eastern regions, the Centre claims that stringent execution of containment and other measures have resulted in a falling trend in the number of new and active cases across states and UTs.

Furthermore, it states that, despite the obvious declining trajectory, the number of active coronavirus infections in the country is still relatively high.

Nevertheless, in the new rules published in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the home ministry did not indicate imposing lockdown anywhere in India.

The government's declaration on Covid-19 actions are as follows:

1. With the exception of some places in the Southern and North-Eastern regions, stringent implementation of containment and other measures have resulted in a falling trend in the number of new and active cases across States and UTs.

2. The Union Home Secretary, Ajay Bhalla said, "I'd like to point out to you that, despite the downward trend, the number of current cases is still rather significant. As a result, it's critical that containment measures continue to be properly enforced. After reviewing the local situation, requirements, and resources, any relaxation by States/UTs may be considered at an opportune time, in a phased manner."

3. He continued, "I would therefore encourage you to continue to comply with the containment measures, as suggested by MoHFW in their letter of 25th April 2021, so that the pandemic can be entirely vanquished."

4. "In this regard, district authorities in your State/UT may be given required instructions to take all essential actions. I would also recommend that orders/guidelines issued by state governments/UT administrations/district authorities for adopting containment measures be extensively circulated to the public and field officials to ensure that they are implemented effectively" he concluded.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India's coronavirus incidence increased to 2,73,69,093 after 2,11,298 additional persons tested positive for the infection in a single day, bringing the country's recovery rate to 90%.
