Man Scams 63 Hotels Using Dirty Condoms and Dead Cockroaches for Free Stays

Man Scams 63 Hotels: He stayed in over 300 hotels and scammed 63 of them with everything from dirty condoms to dead cockroaches.

A man in China was arrested by police after he executed a plan to scam hotels and blackmail them into giving him a free stay and cash. He ran out of money he was supposed to use to pay for college.

According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the 21-year-old man, surnamed Jiang, would check into hotels and bring out his props – cicadas, dead cockroaches, used condoms and strands of hair. He would then complain about the hotel being dirty and use the opportunity to scam them for money or freebies.

“Over 10 months, Jiang frequently stayed at hotels, sometimes checking into three or four different hotels in a single day. He would exploit minor flaws or plant insects, bugs, and hair to threaten hotels with complaints or online exposure, demanding free stays or compensation,” a police officer from Linhai in Zhejiang told the outlet.

How did he get caught?

He scammed several hotels until one of them reported him to police after he tried to extort them, claiming hygiene issues. An anonymous source working with one of the hotels he scammed told the outlet that the hotels started communicating with each other and found out that Jiang was a customer who had raised similar complaints in different hotels.

“His complaints about supposed bugs and hair in the rooms were alarming. Upon discussing these incidents with several other hotels, we noticed a recurring pattern with this guest,” the staff member said.

A Preliminary investigation after Jiang was arrested from a local hotel found 23 packets containing his props. Further investigation found out that since last year, he has stayed in over 300 hotels and scammed 63 of them. He has extorted a total of $5,200 so far.
