BJP Manifesto Highlights UCC Implementation: In its election manifesto 'Sankalp Patra', the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has included several electoral promises, including implementing the Union Civil Code (UCC) and maintaining peace in the Northeast.
On Sunday, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the release of the party's Sankalp Patra.
If a common legal code is not implemented, women will not have equal rights.
"Article 44 of the Constitution lists the Uniform Civil Code as one of the Directive Principles of State Policy. BJP believes that there cannot be gender equality till such time Bharat adopts a Uniform Civil Code, that protects the rights of all women, and the BJP reiterates its stand to draw a Uniform Civil Code, drawing upon the best traditions and harmonizing them with modern times," the BJP said in its manifesto.

According to UCC, citizens all over the world are governed by the same set of laws, regardless of their religion, sex, gender, or race.
As a matter of fact, Uttarakhand became the first Indian state to implement UCC earlier this year.
It said it would keep working on peace in the North-East and getting rid of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Even though some states have already started, the BJP hasn't fulfilled one of its major manifesto promises.
In the past, the BJP has also promised to build the Ram Mandir, abrogate Article 370, and criminalize instant triple talaq.
In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, an ardent BJP supporter, has promised to ban polygamy and implement UCC.

Due to the victim's husband abandoning her, the apex court overruled personal laws and applied Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
A state governor, union territory administrator, or the Centre can send in armed forces to assist civilians under the AFSPA Act.
In the Northeast, the Act East Policy promotes connectivity, education, health, economic development, and security.
Aside from enacting laws against paper leaks, the party has also promised to build sarovars.
Indian elections for the 18th Lok Sabha will take place between April 19, 2024, and June 1, 2024.
