LMC Intensifies Recovery Drive as 3 Lakh Property Owners Default on House Tax

Urged by the big amount of house tax due for clearing it yet by around three lakh property owners, the municipal authorities have stepped up the actions.

LMC Intensifies: Urged by the big amount of house tax due for clearing it yet by around three lakh property owners, the municipal authorities have stepped up the actions. Or their dues will be attached to the assets with the district moving on towards much aggression in account seizures, building sealing and asset attachment.

He said there are 33 lakh properties in the city, but still, the taxes have been paid for only 3,92,000 properties. Three lakh eight thousand properties are still to clear their dues.

The man termed as ominous the threat from the authorities that from March onwards, 12 percent of the pending amount relating to house tax shall be levied as interest. The Corporation intends to increase its pressure over commercial properties, so that they could not ignore the payment.

Another 86,000 people have been identified as commercial property owners in the city. There are around 55,000 who have been good with their dues. But for those outstanding among the figure, notices would be issued to them while sealing of their premises for non-paid taxes starts.

Among others, 81 landowners owe nearly ₹1 crore in tax, and 139 defaulters have dues over ₹50 lakh. Nearly 26,000 properties with pending amounts above ₹50,000 lean red against property.

Inderjit Singh, nodal officer of the Municipal Corporation, ordered the tax department to recover the dues from the largest defaulters and increase their efforts. Using online payment options, residents can settle liabilities at any time without delay. Thus, owners can easily pay taxes through the Municipal Corporation's website, or UPI can be used through Bharat Bill Pay App.
