Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder: A horrific incident took place at Kolkata RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a woman doctor was brutally raped and murdered on August 9.
India Today reported that the assistant superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital told the woman doctor's family that she died by suicide in the hospital.
The report added that the Kolkata police had summoned the deceased’s family and the assistant superintendent of RG Kar Medical College for questioning.
Furthermore, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Principal, Sandip Ghosh has resigned from his position because he was being criticized for the rape.
Sandip Ghosh told ANI, “I am getting defamed on social media. It is not good. The deceased doctor was like my daughter. As a parent, I resign. I don't like that this should happen to anyone in future.”
The victim was a post-graduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

As per the post-mortem report, the trainee doctor was first brutally raped and then she was murdered. The report also states that her private parts have several severe injuries.
On Monday, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visited the deceased doctor's family. She also said that the authorities would investigate and find out the person who claimed that she died by suicide.
Mamata Banerjee said, “I want the police to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. If they are unable to crack the case by Sunday, we will hand it over to the CBI. I don’t have an issue with the central agency taking over, but its success rate is low.”
Kolkata police have recorded the statement of the deceased trainee doctor's colleagues and the four junior doctors who had dinner with the deceased trainee doctor that night.

According to the statement, the post-graduate trainee doctor was watching Neeraj Chopra's javelin throw at the Paris Olympics before going to have dinner with four colleagues at 2:30 am.
After dinner, she went to the seminar hall to take a rest.
However, several doctors across the country have put up a protest for the horrible incident. This restricted all elective services, such as OPDs and non-emergency surgeries.
They are demanding a transparent investigation into the case and requesting that the case should be handled by CBI.
