In his letter of resignation to party head Arvind Kejriwal, the 50-year-old leader cited "grave challenges" that the AAP is facing within.
"Political ambitions have overtaken our commitment towards people, leaving many promises unfulfilled.
As an example, we never got around to making the Yamuna a clean river, despite keeping our commitment.
He claimed that the Yamuna River was possibly more contaminated now than it had ever been.

He has referred to "many embarrassing and awkward controversies like the Sheeshmahal"—a name used by the BJP to refer to the Chief Minister's home that was renovated during Mr Kejriwal's tenure in what appears to be a jab at him. Such disputes, according to Mr. Gahlot, "are now making everyone doubt whether we still believe in being the Aam Aadmi."
In response to Mr. Gahlot's announcement, the BJP moved swiftly. Mr. Gahlot has explained how the "Aam Aadmi Party has become Khaas (special) Aadmi Party," according to party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla. "Every promise they made to the public has been broken. The AAP is now the Arvind Aadmi Party. They have been revealed by their leader.

Mr. Gahlot had taken a "bold step," according to Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva.
This demonstrates that even members of Arvind Kejriwal's party think he has used Delhi taxpayer funds improperly for Sheeshmahal.
He declared, "No decent person who cares about Delhi will cooperate with the robbers' gang under Arvind Kejriwal." Mr. Sachdeva added that if Mr.Gahlot wishes to join the BJP, the party will accept him.
