India Sees Spike in H1B Visa: Following Donald Trump's unexpected success in the US elections, many Indians are most worried about how it would affect immigration to the nation after the former businessman turned politician incited anti-immigrant rhetoric in the lead-up to the elections.
These problems were well evident in the way many Indians searched online for such information, said data available on the 'Trends' section of the website Google.
Questions about 'legal immigration,' 'H1B visas,' and 'US birth citizenship' peaked on November 6, when Trump was declared victor.

Google Trends results indicated that searching about ways to move to Canada came from Democratic-leaning states like Vermont and Minnesota, whereas Republican-leaning states, including Mississippi and Alabama, searched for birth control in those states.
For 'legal immigration,' a search term in India spiked on November 6, the day Trump was declared the victor—from virtually nothing at all as compared with a month before that, even though Trump had talked about the action he would take on what he termed illegal immigration if he came to power.
Google users in Punjab led the search for the query, followed by those in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Kerala. Indian users who searched for the phrase legal immigration also searched for terms like 'Trump legal immigration,' 'legal immigration under Trump,' and 'Stephen Miller'.

Trump appointed long-time aide Miller, who is known for his hardline immigration stand, to be Deputy Chief of Staff. He reportedly plays a central role in many policy decisions, especially on immigration, such as the family separation policy of 2018.
While with him back as a Trump advisor in his second term, rejections for visas like H1B-which many skilled Indians rely on to work in the US are widely expected to increase.
Google search queries for H1B visas also spiked on November 6, with more people searching for the term than anytime in the month before that.
These people also searched for phrases like 'Donald Trump H1B visa' and 'US birth citizenship'. The phrase H1B visa was searched the most by people living in Telangana, followed by Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
