Jobless Bengal Teachers Invite Sourav Ganguly to Protest; Ex‑Cricketer Issues Supportive Response
Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly to invite him to a march to the West Bengal state secretariat

Sourav Ganguly to Protest: After a group of teachers, who had been rendered jobless by a recent Supreme Court verdict on the WBSSC Recruitment Scam, went to the residence of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly to invite him to a march to the West Bengal state secretariat, 'Nabanna', on April 21, the 52-year-old respectfully turned down the invitation.
The teachers had approached Ganguly at his Behala residence on Tuesday, requesting him to join their planned march.
52-year-old Ganguly, known for largely staying away from political controversies, responded with a brief message: "Please don't involve me in politics," he told Abp Ananda.

Ganguly has maintained a consistent distance from political controversies over the years, despite being one of Bengal’s most celebrated figures.
They were also part of the 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staff of state-sponsored and -aided schools who lost their jobs after the Supreme Court found large-scale irregularities in the 2016 recruitment process and scrapped the entire panel on April 3.
When the teachers were asked to hand over the invite to the Ganguly office staff, they refused and insisted on meeting him personally.

However, before they could meet Ganguly, police intervened and took the group to a nearby police station to discuss procedural issues regarding their invitation. The teachers refused to simply leave the invite at Ganguly's office, insisting on a personal meeting.

The dismissed teachers are staging protests across the state, claiming that their termination was unjust and appealing for support from all quarters. Many are hopeful that the involvement of public personalities could add weight to their demands for reconsideration.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already met with representatives of the jobless teachers earlier this month, asking them to keep their faith in her government’s efforts to find a solution.
