House Collapse in Delhi’s Mustafabad Caught on Camera; 4 Dead, Several Feared Trapped

House Collapse: In the early hours of Saturday a four-storey building collapsed in the Mustafabad area of Delhi, claiming at least four lives and leaving several others trapped under the debris.

The video captures the sudden collapse of the building within a few seconds. It begins with a section of the building collapsing. Within moments, the entire structure crumbles, sending massive clouds of dust billowing outward. The surrounding area is quickly engulfed in a thick haze, obscuring visibility. In the last few seconds of the video, the dense dust completely blankets the camera’s view, leaving nothing visible.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police teams were at the spot to carry out a rescue operation on Saturday morning.

Sandeep Lamba, Additional DCP, North East District, confirmed that four people had succumbed to their injuries after being rescued, adding that some others were trapped. "The incident took place at around 3 am in the morning… 14 people were rescued, but four among them succumbed...it was a four-storey building...rescue operation is underway. 8-10 people are still feared trapped," news agency ANI quoted DCP Lamba.

A CCTV footage shared by ANI captured the moment of tragedy.

Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer, said call regarding the house collapse was received around 2:50 am on Saturday. "We received a call regarding a house collapse around 2:50 am...we reached the spot and found out that the entire building has collapsed and people are trapped under the debris...NDRF, Delhi Fire Service are working to rescue the people...," he said.

"Pancake Collapse, Chances Of Survival Minimal"

An official described it as a “pancake collapse”, in which, he said, the chances of survival are "minimal".

"Still, we hope there are lives that can be saved and are actively searching. Debris is being cleared slowly and thoroughly checked," NDRF's Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mohsen Shahidi told the news agency PTI.

He also said that working in such congested areas is "extremely challenging".

"The use of heavy machinery to clear debris is limited due to space constraints," Mr Shahidi said.
