Jairam Ramesh Questions PM Modi in Parliament Over Trump's Ceasefire Claims on India-Pakistan

On Wednesday (July 16, 2025) Expressing his views, the Congress said that now it is the turn of Prime minister Narendra Modi to answer the India-Pakistan claims of ceasefire by the president Donald Trump in the lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha during the upcoming Monsoon session of the Parliament.
Posting with the words of Mr. Trump what the latter had to say about the trade agreement package being drafted with India, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said, “Today the score stands at 66 days, 23 reiterations. Parliament will resume from July 21. The score will no doubt change before then. But the PM has to answer clearly in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.”

Mr. Ramesh referred to what Donald Trump had said about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, but the country wants to know.
On Monday (July 14, 2025), Mr. Trump had resserted his claim that he curbed the conflict between India and Pakistan, which would have escalated into a "nuclear war," by trade.
Ever since May 10 when Mr. Trump, via social media stated that India and Pakistan settled to full and immediate ceasefire after a long night of negotiation mediated by Washington, he has made several instances of claiming to have peacefully resolved the conflict between India and Pakistan.

Nevertheless, India has repeatedly been saying that the position of cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was arrived upon after direct negotiations between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both militaries.
During an almost 35-minute conversation with Mr. Trump last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi categorically told the President that India does not and would not entertain mediation and the subsequent talks between the militaries of India and Pakistan in halting military activity were at the pestering of Islamabad.
India ran the operation Sindoor on May 7 against the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to respond to the Pahalgam attack that resulted in the death of 26 civilians. On May 10, India and Pakistan managed to come to terms on halting the conflict after four days of aggressive drone and missile attacks across the border.
