India Slams Asim Munir After Nuke Threat: Army ‘Hand-in-Glove’ with Terrorists

India Slams Asim Munir After Nuke Threat: India on Monday ripped into Pakistan, delivering trenchant criticism of the nuclear war threat by the army chief of the neighbouring country against it, describing the utterances as a brand of nuclear sabre-rattling and a stock-in-trade trick by the latter.

"Our attention has been drawn to remarks reportedly made by the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff while on a visit to the United States. Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan’s stock-in-trade," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

In his current visit to the US, Asim Munir is believed to have stated that Pakistan as a nuclear armed state would bring out half of the world down in case of an existential threat by India. It is the first attempt at a third country being threatened on US soil and with regards to nuclear weapons.

The government rejected his comments, saying, "The international community can draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks, which also reinforce the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups.

"It is also regrettable that these remarks should have been made from the soil of a friendly third country," the statement added, also observing that India has already indicated that that she is not going to succumb to nuclear blackmail.

"We will continue to take all steps necessary to safeguard our national security," the government affirmed.

Earlier in the day, the government sources dubbed the comments as a highly irresponsible comment and added to the fact that the country is endangering its region and world security. According to the sources, when the US assists the Pakistani military, they display their colours all the time.

“It is a sign that democracy does not exist in Pakistan; instead, the military controls the country. There is a real danger of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of non-state actors in Pakistan,” the sources added.

What Asim Munir said in the US

Asked in an exchange at a US dinner party on Sunday, Asim Munir added that Islamabad would destroy half of the world in case New Delhi posed an existential threat to them. "We are a nuclear nation. If we believe we are going down, we will take half the world down with us," he said.

“We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does, we will destroy it with ten missiles,” he reportedly said, adding, “The Indus River is not the Indians’ family property... We have no shortage of missiles, Alhamdulillah”.

It is the second US visit of Pak Army chief in the last two months following a four-day war with India. He had met leaders of the senior political and military leadership in high level engagements and also got associated with the Pakistani diaspora and the Pakistani army as confirmed in a statement by the Pakistani army.
