7 Dead After Pick-Up Van Accident in Pune; PM Modi & CM Fadnavis Announce Ex Gratia
A van plunged off the road in Pune which made seven people die and many sustained injuries. Both PM Modi and CM Fadnavis mourned and promised to compensate the family of victims.

At least seven passengers died and many others got injuries when a pick-up van in which they were riding fell off the road in hilly terrain in Pune in Maharashtra on Monday.
The victims were all inhabitants of Papalwadi village and on route to Kundeshwar Temple in Khed tehsil to offer an obeisance ceremonially on a propitious day of the month of Shravan on which the mishap occurred as news agency PTI reported.

“There were around 30 to 35 passengers, including women and children, in the pick-up van. As per preliminary probe, the vehicle fell 25 to 30 feet down the road while negotiating a ghat section," an official from Pimpri Chinchwad police said.
According to him, seven people lost their lives in the accident, and a number of others were injured and admitted in hospitals within the vicinity.
In the interim, prime minister Narendra Modi offered condolences on the accident and promised ex gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs 50000 to the injured victims as payout announcements through the prime minister national relief fund (PMNRF).
“Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon. An ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis too expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and declared a compensation of four lakh rupees to the next of kin of each person who was killed in the accident.
“A tragic incident occurred under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate at Kundeshwar, where a pickup vehicle carrying devotees visiting for Shravan Monday darshan met with an accident, resulting in the death of 7 people. Financial assistance of 4 lakh rupees will be provided to the families of the deceased on behalf of the state government," he said on X.

The accident has also seen more than 20 people being injured as Fadnavis stated that they are under treatment at different hospitals. “Arrangements are being made for their complete treatment, and I am personally in contact with the Police Commissioner," he added.
