India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire from 5 PM Today Following DGMO Talks: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri

External affairs minister S Jaishankar said that an understanding has been worked out between India and Pakistan today to stop the firing and cease military action.

India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire from 5 PM Today Following DGMO Talks: Foreign Secretary Vikrim Misri said on Saturday, India and Pakistan have agreed to ceasefire in all forms of firing and military action on land and air from 5 pm today. However it has not been announced that there have been talks on any other issue or place, the people on the ceasefire decision said.

"The DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) of Pakistan called DGMO of India at 15.35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea with effect from 1700 hours IST," says foreign secretary Vikram Misri.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Pakistan and India announced on Saturday that "India and Pakistan have today agreed" to something on the stoppage of firing and military action."

“India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.

What Donald Trump Said?

Earlier on Saturday as per local time in the US, US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire between the two countries following tensions between the countries escalating from the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a post on TruthSocial Trump said, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz-Shehbaz on Saturday IST about the situation.

"He expressed US support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and encouraged continued efforts to improve communications,” US State Department said in a statement.

India also mentioned on Saturday morning that it had hit eight military targets in Pakistan with air-delivered precision weapons. The government said the action in retaliation for the "blatent" actions across the LOC and on India’s military infrastructure and indeed its civil populated areas by the Pakistan military supported the actions' against military and civilian infrastructure using their fighter jets, UCAVs and missiles, Ministry of Defence said.

The latest incident occurred on Saturday, a day after the Indian authorities foiled 26 drone strike in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat by Pakistan. In an armed drone attack, three civilians were injured in Punjab’s Ferozepur town last night.

The attacks carried out by Pakistan and counter-attack by India came a day after India about nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

India's strike, called Operation Sindoor, occurred two weeks after the terror attacks in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April when 26 people (mostly tourists) were killed.
