Fresh Gen-Z Protests Erupt in Nepal After Two Months; Authorities Impose Curfew

Authorities Impose Curfew: Youngsters in Nepal took to the streets again, this time clashing with loyalists of the former ruling party that was toppled in the September ‘Gen Z’ uprising. A curfew was imposed in Bara district on Thursday.

Protesters gathered at Simara Chowk around 11 am and police used force to disperse them, The Kathmandu Post reported. The clash escalated near Simara Airport and police fired teargas canisters and airport authorities had to halt operations.

The curfew in Simara was imposed at 12.45 pm and will continue until 8 pm, the report added. Gen Z protesters are accusing police of not arresting those named in their complaints over Wednesday’s clashes.

On November 19, six Gen Z supporters were injured in a confrontation at Simara Chowk near the airport, after which they filed a complaint against six UML cadres.

The Kathmandu Post reported that multiple Gen-Z protestors were injured in the clashes that erupted on Wednesday.

Tension started from Wednesday after UML leaders planned to visit the district ahead of the March 5, 2026 election.

This is nearly two months after the September clashes in Nepal that killed 76 people. The protests had forced then Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Oli to step down from the post.

After the Oli-led government fell, a new government was formed on September 12 under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, who on the same day recommended dissolving the parliament and calling for fresh elections.
