Emergency Drills at 55 Delhi Sites Test Earthquake Readiness in ‘Suraksha Chakra’
A mega disaster management mock drill will be conducted at over 55 locations in Delhi including markets, schools and hospitals on Friday to spread awareness and sensitise people about earthquake and other calamities.

The exercise started with a simulated earthquake scenario followed by chemical leaks in industrial and transport zones in all 11 districts of the city.
The exercise is being conducted simultaneously in Delhi and UP and Haryana districts in the National Capital Region, said officials.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with Indian Army and governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh is organising ‘Exercise Suraksha Chakra’ which culminated into a field level mock drill.

A senior Delhi government official told PTI, “The exercise will be conducted at four to six locations in each district. Members of all government agencies have been instructed, and rehearsals for the disaster management modules have already been conducted.”
The drill aimed to test response time, inter-agency coordination and public safety protocols in case of natural or man-made disasters.
The drill was part of ‘Exercise Suraksha Chakra’ being organised by NDMA, Indian Army and governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

People have received messages ahead of the drill. The message reads, “On 01/08/25, an earthquake and chemical disaster mock drill is being conducted in the districts of Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad. Sirens and announcements may occur. Please do not panic, do not spread rumours, and cooperate.”
Delhi Disaster Management Authority conducted a drill to check how Delhi-NCR is prepared for emergencies like earthquakes and chemical leaks.
Also to test how emergency teams and civic agencies coordinate during such incidents.
At 9 am, sirens were sounded in several areas. At Mother’s International School, students evacuated their classrooms calmly with teachers and staff to safety points. Teams did triage and checked building safety as part of post-earthquake response.
