Heavy Rainfall Wreaks Havoc in Rajasthan; Mini‑Truck Swept Away in Dholpur

Rajasthan is in disaster mode. In Dholpur, a driver and cleaner along with a mini-truck were swept away on Friday morning.

Mini‑Truck Swept Away in Dholpur: Rajasthan is in disaster mode. In Dholpur, a driver and cleaner along with a mini-truck were swept away on Friday morning. The vehicle sank into the Parvati river on the Ranoli culvert of Maniyan police station area.

Driver and cleaner also drowned with it. Labourer and contractor in the vehicle were saved in nick of time, search is on for driver and cleaner’s bodies till filing of this report. Police is searching for both, said officials.

In Jasnagar of Nagaur district, National Highway-458 has been closed for the third time in last 12 days as water of Luni river is flowing 6 inches above Jasnagar culvert.

Therefore, in order to prevent any mishaps, the administration has had to close the National Highway once again. Due to this, Nagaur has lost connectivity with Pali and Beawar districts.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts for heavy to very heavy rain in many parts of the state. These include Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Jaipur, Dausa, Sikar, Jodhpur, Pali, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bundi, Kota.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan has seen its wettest July in nearly 7 decades with 285 mm of cumulative rainfall across the state, according to Jaipur Meteorological Centre.

This marks a 77 per cent surplus compared to the state's long-period average (LPA) of 161.4 mm for the month.

Last time Rajasthan saw such heavy July rainfall was in 1956 when the state recorded 308 mm, highest ever for that month. This year’s rainfall is close to breaking that 69 year old record.

According to weather experts, monsoon trough line is passing through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak. A cyclonic circulation is formed at upper level of South-West Rajasthan. Due to effect of this system, rain is expected in Bikaner division on August 2, rest of the state will be dry.
