Jaishankar’s Dig at US-Pak Relations: In an apparent reference to Pakistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said far too long has the relationship between the United States and another country been guided by selectiveness of approaches that have plotted the roads in the past to be forgotten in the interests of immediacy.
Addressing an the Economic Times World Leaders Forum, he wrote the trend as part of a pattern in international relations.

“Pakistan and the US have a history with each other, and they have a history of overlooking that history,” he said, adding that such situations are not new. “It’s not the first time we have seen this in US–Pakistan relations.”
Such behaviour is typically occasioned by the fact that nations tend to pursue present issues and to consider short-term interests at the expense of longer-term issues. “The issue is when countries are focused on doing politics of convenience. They keep trying to do this, some of it can be tactical, some can have other benefits,” he noted.

The remarks by the minister are made when Washington and Islamabad have been discussing the security and economic aspects although both countries have maintained differences.
General Asim Munir, the Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan, has visited the US twice in recent months discussing economics, trade, economic growth and cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, on its own, Islamabad has struck a deal with Washington to construct strategic oil stocks in Pakistan and also it is the first nation to receive US crude oil.
