4 Injured, 9 Pilgrims Killed in Truck–Auto Collision in Bihar’s Patna
A truck crashed head-on with 12 pilgrims in an auto-rickshaw as they travelled towards Fatuha Triveni to have a holy dip in the Ganga: Police

Nine people were killed and four other injured in head-on collision between a truck and auto-rickshaw on the Daniyawan-Hilsa State Highway 4 in Bihar Patna district Saturday morning.
A group of 12 pilgrims in an auto-rickshaw on its way to Fatuha Triveni to take a holy dip in the Ganga were killed this morning (Sunday) after they collided head-on into a truck around 6 am near the Sigariyawan police station.

“The victims were residents of Nalanda district and were on their way to Fatuha for a dip in the Ganga River. Concerned officials have been directed to implement safety measures to avoid road accidents on the state highway,” Patna superintendent of police (Rural) Vikram Sihag told HT.
Five women were killed instantly, and four other-including a man-died of the way to hospital. Injured persons were taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna. “The impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was shattered into pieces. Following the accident, the truck driver fled the spot with the vehicle,” said the SP, adding that a case was registered.
Patna district magistrate Thiyagrajan SM said, “People are being provided all possible help. As soon as the information of the incident was received, the police station, traffic police, and ambulance were sent to the spot. According to the information received, four people are injured. The injured have been sent to PMCH for treatment. The civil surgeon has been directed to keep in regular contact with the hospital superintendent and ensure proper treatment of the injured.”

As it appears to the police, the truck must have been driving at a high customary speed and lost control that caused it to collide head-on with the auto-rickshaw.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has condoled with the families who received deaths in the road accident in rural Patna and also called them the worst part of the tragedy.
In the wake of the accident, the local residents obstructed the state roadway and hampered the free flow of traffic demanding proper compensation to the families of the deceased.
