A Special Court in Bengaluru today convicted Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former MP Prajwal Revanna in the first rape case filed against him at Holenarasipura Rural Police Station of Hassan District.

Additional City Civil And Session Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat had on April 3, framed charges against Revanna under Sections 376(2)(k) (rape by a person in a position of dominance), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape), 354(A) (sexual harassment), 354(B) (assault or use of force with intent to disrobe), 354(C) (voyeurism), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and Section 66(e) of the Information Technology Act.
Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat of the Special Court for the trial of criminal cases against present and former MPs/MLAs will give the sentence on Saturday.

Prajwal Revanna, grandson of JD(S) supremo and former PM H D Deve Gowda, appeared before the judge. He looked upset after being convicted. He has been in Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara for the past 14 months.
The Special Court for People's Representatives in Bengaluru had completed the trial on July 18 and had reserved the verdict. The sentence will be given on Saturday, August 2.
The case is of a 48-year-old woman who was working as a help at the family's Gannikada farmhouse in Hassan district's Holenarasipura. She was allegedly raped twice in 2021 and the act was recorded by the accused on his mobile phone.

Four cases have been filed against Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual harassment and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the cases against him.
Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former PM and JD (S) chief HD Deve Gowda.
He was arrested by the SIT on May 31 last year, when he arrived at Bengaluru Airport from Germany in connection with a case filed at Holenarasipura Town Police Station.
Revanna had lost the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. JD(S) had suspended him from the party after the cases were filed against him.
