Elon Musk Slams UK PM Keir Starmer Over ‘Pakistani Rape Gangs’ Remark, Sparks Controversy
Tesla's leader has spoken out against UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the so-called 'mishandling' of child exploitation cases surrounding Pakistani-origin gangs.

Elon Musk Slams UK PM Keir Starmer: Tech mogul Elon Musk criticized the UK Prime Minister for the handling of the sexual exploitation of young girls by grooming gangs, mostly consisting of British Pakistani men, in Oldham, claiming that he failed to deliver justice on the victims of 'rape gangs' during his directorship of public prosecutions over ten years ago.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk said, "Starmer was complicit in the rape of Britain when he was head of Crown Prosecution for six years. Starmer must go and he must face charges for his complicity in the worst mass crime in the history of Britain."

Musk further called upon King Charles to dissolve Parliament, after Labour Party's dismissal of a demand for a national inquiry into the scandal.
However, according to the UK government, Musk's utterances were "misjudged and certainly misinformed". Officials have, however, been expressing their willingness to partner with him if it comes to addressing the terrible issue, saying, "But we're willing to work with Elon Musk. I think he's got a big role to play with his social media platform to help us and other countries to tackle this serious issue. So, if he wants to work with us, roll his sleeves up. We'd welcome that."
Health Secretary Wes Streeting on Musk said that the allegations really are "misjudged and misinformed" but could give credence to the idea of Musk's social media platform being used to further the efforts to deal with such a major topic.
About the reopening of the saga, Home Office Minister Jess Phillips refused Oldham Council's call for an inquiry into historical child sexual exploitation to be done by the government, which drew quite a lot of angry reaction, not least from the Conservatives who have hence thrown their weight behind a national inquiry.
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch emphasised the urgency, stating on X, "2025 must be the year that the victims start to get justice."

It is a long-standing, emotive issue already riled by the older bedroom grooming gangs of the far right.

Investigations into northern England, for instance, one in Rotherham, uncovered systematic child abuse, with around 1,400 victims over a period of 16 years-exclusively involving British Pakistani men.
Shadow ministers have urged Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to overturn her junior minister's decision and start a national inquiry into these matters. Only a statutory inquiry into those crimes can address the national dimension.
The UK government undertook recommendations of the 2022 national inquiry on child sexual abuse under Professor Alexis Jay. Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse-IICSA made 20 recommendations, with Professor Jay saying, "It doesn't need more consultation. It does not need more research or discussion. It just needs to be done."
