On the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah (often referred to as the "Day of Sacrifice"), Muslims from all around the world celebrate Eid-ul-Adha by conducting the ritual of cattle sacrificial slaughter during their festival as a symbol of Prophet Ibrahim and Ismael's love for Allah by showing that they are willing to sacrifice what they love most dearly for the sake of Allah.
The meat or meal produced from the sacrifice is then divided in three equal parts, one part for the family, one part for the family and relatives, and one part for poor and needy. Muslims believe that, even though neither the meat nor the blood reaches Allah, that the sacrifices serve other worldly purposes.
Muslims in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, along with several other Arab countries and the UK, the US, France, Canada and many other countries, will attempt to sight the Eid-ul-Adha crescent moon on Tuesday May 27, 2025 which is the 29th of Dhul Qadah month. If the crescent moon is sighted today, then Wednesday May 28, 2025 will be the first day of Dhul Hijjah month and therefore Eid al Adha will be celebrated on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, i.e. June 06, 2025 whereas Youmul Hajj or Arafat Day will be on June 05, 2025.
However, if the new moon is not sighted on Tuesday May 27 once the month completes, the next day will be considered the 30th day of Dhul Qadah, i.e. the month of Dhul Hijjah will begin from May 29, 2025 onward in this situation Eid al Adha, would be celebrated on June 07, 2025 and Youmul Hajj or Arafat Day (the main ritual of Hajj) will be on June 06, 2025.
