A little over two months after Royal Challengers Bengaluru first started their IPL 2025 regular season with a win, they will now try to finish it with a win, as they will face Lucknow Super Giants with the chance to finish with a top two finish. It has been a long and tough grind for all 10 teams, however for RCB it has included loads of reasons to stay positive and hope that maybe, just maybe, this will be the year that the men's team can put that 18-year IPL title hoodoo behind them.
The key for them in their adventure in the playoffs, will be to finish in the top two and gain two paths into the finals, should they need it. In simple mathematical terms, if RCB wants to finish in either 2nd, or potentially 1st with a big enough net run rate boost, they need to win today's match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The stakes are even higher than simply winning - in the past 15 years, of the playoff system that includes eliminators at the IPL, only once has a team managed to reproduce the feat of emerging victorious from the eliminator, and then winning first two playoff matches and taking home the IPL trophy. It is not easy, and thus RCB still have to chance to resist the jam-packed are an iceberg of difficulty.
So Rajat Patidar and his squad are well aware of the dilemma before them. It is simply a case of knocking over Lucknow Super Giants who have so far added a great burden on any team this season through the force of their batting unit. LSG do not appear to have much to play for other than pride, and again over the last week we have all seen how dangerous a factor that can be for teams already locked into the playoffs. LSG proved that by blowing apart Gujarat, and RCB themselves experienced this as they were paced aside by SRH while at the same venue only a few days ago.

With Mitchell Marsh fresh off a phenomenal century, Nicholas Pooran appearing to be back in his groove, and even Rishabh Pant connecting in a couple of confidence-boosting innings after a difficult season, LSG will be looking to play spoiler, finish with a record of 7-7, and relegate their opponents to third-place IPL finish.
RCB had won four matches-in-a-row prior to the temporary suspension of the IPL, and a wash-out, and subsequent loss when it returned, has left this team without a cricket victory in 24 days. In such a tournament structure, they have a long way to go, and although they did win four-in-a-row then, this match will be important for a few members of their team just to find some form again. There are a few pluses for RCB: Josh Hazlewood is back, which is a big plus for them after missing a few games, and they are looking to be the first team to win all seven away match in an IPL season. As they look to make history, RCB will want to seal the deal. It’s an important game in concluding the IPL season: which team can offer the fireworks needed to win it?
