Delhi Police Reach Out to CBI for Details on Hoax Bomb Threat: On Thursday, Delhi Police wrote to the CBI about a hoax bomb threat e-mail sent to more than 150 schools in the National Capital Region (NCR).

CBI, the designated National Central Bureau of India, is responsible for all communication and coordination with Interpol, they said.

Officials said the agency is expected to forward the information sought by the Delhi Police to Interpol, which in turn will send it to all member agencies.

Police officials clarified that although the email address used, sawariim@mail.ru, indicated Russian origin, they could not verify if they originated from Russia since the perpetrators might have used a masked IP address.

To unravel the conspiracy and motive behind the Wednesday hoax threat that caused panic in Delhi-NCR, the Delhi Police is investigating the IP address used to send the e-mail, as well as the sender and origin of the mail.

Several panic-stricken parents rushed to pick up their children after receiving a purported mail from mail.ru, claiming explosives had been planted at the school.

In the end, the threat that sounded alarm bells in the security establishment turned out to be a hoax as nothing objectionable was found on campus.

According to Delhi Police, the mail was sent using a VPN and dark web, an encrypted online platform that allows individuals to hide their identities and locations.

Delhi Police's Special Cell has registered a case under the relevant legal provisions for conspiracy and threat offenses and formed a dedicated investigation team for the case.

During the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, officials suspect that a "deeper conspiracy" may have been hatched by a terror group and the threat mail may have been sent from an ISIS module.
