Delhi Police Bust Gang Stealing Car and Truck Batteries; 5 Arrested
Five men were arrested for allegedly stealing over 1,000 batteries from vehicles, e-rickshaws and trucks in southeast Delhi's Badarpur, police said on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Sohail, 22, Sahne Alam, 23, Sahzad, 25, Imran, 30, and Jameel Ahmed, 45, they said.
With their arrest, the police claimed to have worked out 21 cases.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal, they used to steal 15 to 20 batteries in a single night, sell them to scrap dealers for 500 to 2,000 rupees, and keep a log of their thefts.
Imran was nabbed from the Mandawali area on March 17 after police identified him standing near a car in one of the CCTV footage, he added.
According to the DCP, Imran, Sohail, Shane Alam, and Sehzad used to steal batteries from cars, motorcycles, e-rickshaws, and tempos and then sell them to scrap dealers in Western Uttar Pradesh and the Trans-Yamuna region.

He said that his associates, Sohail, Shane Alam, and Sehzad, were subsequently taken into custody.
He claimed that Lakshmi Nagar resident and scrap merchant Jameel Ahmed was taken into custody on their request.
Ahmed was also found to have seventy-six stolen batteries, the vehicle used in the crime, and tools for opening automobile bonnets, according to the police.
