The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital stood at 386 in the 'Severe' category for the second consecutive day recorded at 7:00 am on Sunday.

Delhi Air Pollution Updates: The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital stood at 386 in the 'Severe' category for the second consecutive day recorded at 7:00 am on Sunday.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), PM2.5, which refers to fine particulate matter, continues to be the primary pollutant, exacerbating the situation.
These tiny particles are deadly for people with respiratory problems, children and the elderly. The cold wave in Delhi with temperatures dropping to 8°C at 7 am has made the situation worse as lower temperatures trap pollutants near the ground and don’t let them disperse.

The cold wave in Delhi, with temperatures dipping to 8°C at 7 am, has further worsened the pollution levels as lower temperatures trap pollutants near the ground, preventing them from dispersing.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 8°C, adding to the cold wave conditions in the city.
According to the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre-Delhi, the national capital will likely witness mild fog on Sunday morning. Due to the intensified cold wave, mild fog is likely to remain present in the evening and at night.

On Monday, Delhi's AQI breached the 400 mark and dipped into the 'severe plus' category. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the smoggy conditions may persist for a few more days as the cold wave in the national capital is intensifying.
The Delhi Airport also issued an advisory for passengers saying, "Low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information."
The forecast for the upcoming Christmas weekend indicates that the weather will remain chilly with dense fog expected on Christmas Eve, and moderate fog predicted for Christmas Day. While the fog may help trap it could also cause visibility issues, especially in the mornings.
For now, the priority is to protect the health of Delhi’s citizens, minimize exposure to harmful pollutants and spread awareness about the dangers of air pollution. As the city prepares for another harsh winter, authorities, citizens and experts must come together to tackle one of the country’s biggest environmental challenges.
