Delhi: 5 Key Challenges for BJP Government as New Chief Minister Is Chosen Today
Delhi CM Announcement: BJP will select the new chief minister of Delhi on Wednesday with a grand oath-taking ceremony planned for February 20 at Ramlila Ground.

Delhi: The wait will finally be over on Wednesday after the Assembly elections - for Delhi's new chief minister. This is when the Bharatiya Janata Party brings its Legislature Party from all over the country to conduct an election process for the Leader of the House. Meanwhile, the ground preparations go in full swing as Delhi gets ready to host the oath-taking ceremony on February 20 at the historic Ramlila Ground.

According to the party leaders, this grand ceremony will have the new chief minister and entire Cabinet take the oath in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other Union ministers, and eminent personalities.
Great crowds are said to expect during the event, with around 40 celebrities invited as part of this celebration, news agency PTI said, while adding that the ceremony would hold around midday instead of the previously communicated timing of 4:30 pm by party leaders.
Major challenges for Delhi's new government
- Fulfilling promises: Key among the BJP's promises to voters during their campaigning for elections was provision of 2,500 cash to women eligible beneficiaries by 8 March, or International Women's Day. The assurance was made by PM Narendra Modi at election rallies, when he said, "This is Modi's guarantee... From March 8, women will receive money in their accounts." The new government faces the immediate challenge of setting up a speedy distribution mechanism for this within some few months, while hurrying into the next budget meeting necessary appropriation not only for this scheme but also for the promise of 21,000 to help pregnant women.
- Air pollution crisis: Air quality hazardous, winter months in Delhi, stubble burning, vehicular emissions, and industrial pollution continue to be serious concerns. The need to implement sustainable measures and enhance green cover, electric vehicles, and waste management, among others, will be the mandate of the Delhi BJP government.
- Water and power supply problems: Delhi now suffers from insufficiencies of water in many different areas, along with the intermittent flow it offers, mostly due to the pollution in the Yamuna. On the list of promises by the BJP before the assembly election, clean drinking water and uninterrupted electricity supply were among them. Clean drinking water and uninterrupted power supply during peak summer months must certainly be ensured by this new government as an extension of promises made by the BJP.
- Law and Order: Public Safety and Increasing Street Crimes- are important points. Improvement is in reinforcement by the Delhi police through synchronized communication.

To a certain extent, the BJP has also promised welfare measures in its Sankalp Patra (manifesto), hence the new government will now be making effort to perform on these fronts while leaving Delhi's coffers intact. The challenge tends toward balancing the requirement of social welfare against fear of fiscal imprudence.
