CISF Denies Security Lapse in December 19 Parliament Scuffle: ‘No Weapon Allowed

CISF Denies Security Lapse: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), in charge of security for the Parliament House Complex, on Monday claimed that it did not have any lapse during the row last Thursday between the NDA and INDIA bloc MPs.

"There was no lapse (on part of the force). No weapon was allowed...," PTI quoted CISF Deputy Inspector General (operations) Shrikant Kishore as saying this at a press meet.

"The force will choose to keep quiet when the honourable members (MPs) make allegations...," he said when asked about contrary allegations made by the parliamentarians against each other as to who pushed whom.

He further informed that there is no inquiry by CISF into such an incident that had happened at Makar Dwar of Parliament House Complex.

What happened on the December 19? On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc MPs raised protests in the Parliament complex, making demands for an apology and resignation of Union home minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

In a scuffle with NDA MPs, two MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput from BJP suffered injuries to their heads. The saffron party has accused Gandhi of having pushed the two lawmakers.

This was stated by Sarangi, the 70-year-old MP from Balasore Odisha, that Rahul shoved Mukesh Rajput, leading to a fall of both MPs. Sarangi injured forehead and knees. They were later admitted to ICU at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital but have since been discharged.

Accusation rejected outright from the Congress side, which states that BJP MPs pushed its president Mallikarjun Kharge and physically manhandled Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Delhi Police registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi, hours after the BJP filed a complaint, accusing him of physical assault and incitement.

“We were going to the House, their MPs were standing at the gate to stop us. The Home Minister should resign and apologise. The government wants to divert attention. The main issue is that Modiji's friend Adani has a case against him in the US, he does not want a discussion on this,” Gandhi said at a press conference.
