Bihar Assembly Elections LIVE: BJP Releases First List of 71 Candidates, Both Deputy CMs to Contest Again

Bihar Assembly Elections LIVE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its initial list of candidates on Tuesday on the pending Bihar assembly elections.

There are 71 names of candidates in the first list.

Key Points

  • Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary to run against Tarapur.
  • Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha to vie against Lakhishari.
  • State minister Nitin Nabin to contest against Bankipur and Renu Devi to contest against Bettiah.
  • The BJP has also announced other notable names as a candidate in the form of Ram Kripal Yadav of Danapur, Prem Kumar of Gaya, former deputy chief minister Tarkishore Prasad of Katihar, Alok Ranjan Jha of Saharsa and Mangal Pandey of Siwan.
  • The state ministers, Nitish Mishra, will be re-electioning the Jhanjharpur seat. The Jamui seat will be occupied with Shreyasi Singh as per the list that was announced by BJP.
  • One of the leaders not in the list is Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav. He has been substituted by Ratnesh Kushwaha in the Patna Sahib constituency.
  • The Bihar assembly is to be polled on November 6, November 11, with the counting of votes to be done on November 14 and the state has 243 seats.

On Sunday, the incumbent ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced that the Bihar elections would be fought on 101 seats apiece by the BJP and JDU, 29 seats apiece by the LJP (Ram Vilas), six seats apiece by the Rashtriya Lok Morcha and six seats apiece by the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM).

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) (JDU), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha are the partners in the NDA.
