UPSC Topper Shakti Dubey’s Parents Say ‘We Had No Role to Play’, Credit Her Hard Work
UPSC topper Shakti Dubey's parents attribute to hard work and determination in her success.
Shakti Dubey, a biochemistry graduate from University of Allahabad, achieved the first rank in the UPSC civil services exam of the year 2024. On April 22, the date of result declaration, her parents from Prayagraj spoke to the media about their daughter's success story. "I am very happy. She has been able to achieve this because of the blessings of Mahadev. We had no role to play. She studied day and night," her mother Prema Dubey told news agency ANI.
Devendra Kumar Dubey, father of Shakti and a police department employee, claimed that they never encouraged her to study because she was very self-motivated from the beginning.
"The only role we played was to make available anything and everything she needed. The rest was her hard work and the blessings of God. We are very happy with the results. My wife played a major role in her success," he said.
He said that his daughter was not able to clear the UPSC interview last year but it did not break her spirit. "God had bigger success planned for her this year, that's why she couldn't make it through last year," he said.

‘It was hard to believe’
Speaking to media, Shakti Dubey said that she has been working really hard for so many years but never expected to be at the first place. "It was hard to believe at first, but the feeling is slowly sinking in. My brother had predicted I would secure the first rank, but I never imagined that it would come true," she said.
Among the top 5 candidates who cleared the exam, three were women and two men. They include-from second rank Harshita Goyal, third-Dongre Archit Parag, fourth-Shah Margi Chirag, and last-Aakash Garg.
As per the commission's statement, she cleared the UPSC exam using political science and international relations as optional subject.
