Pahalgam Terror Attack: 5 Tourists Killed, 12 Injured in Baisaran Shooting; PM Modi Directs Amit Shah to Visit Site

Pahalgam Terror Attack: At least 12 people were hurt during a terrorist assault in Baisaran, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, targeted at tourists. Gunshots were heard in that area, during which time security forces rushed in.

Initial reports had suggested that there was a possible terror attack at a site frequented by tourists, said police officials.

Security forces made a beeline to the area, and PTI reported that an operation is now underway.

As per an eyewitness, it is reported that some unidentified gunmen opened fire with few numbers of tourists nearby, resulting in injuries to many.

"My husband was shot in the head while seven others were also injured in the attack," a woman survivor told PTI over the phone.

Officials revealed that the site is accessible only by foot or horse.

Officials stated that they deployed a chopper for the evacuation of the injured and some were brought down from the meadows by locals on their ponies.

PM Modi speaks to Amit Shah

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is presently on a 2-day public visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, had spoken over the telephone to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the Pahalgam terror attack and called upon him to take all necessary action.

He also told the Union Home Minister to visit the scene of the attacks.

Five reported deaths: Former CM Mehbooba Mufti

The former chief minister today denounced the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam and called for a thorough investigation into matters. She also mentioned that at least five such incidents have been reported as casualties.

“I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Such violence is unacceptable and must be denounced,” Mufti said.

“Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning. A thorough investigation is needed to bring the perpetrators to justice and examine potential security lapses. Ensuring visitor safety is paramount, and steps must be taken to prevent future attacks,” she added.

BJP leader reacts to Pahalgam militant attack: CM Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attacks on civilians, adding that he would be flying immediately back to Srinagar.

“I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman & worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough. I send my sympathies to the families of the deceased,” Abdullah said.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Ravinder Raina reacting on the incident reported in Pahalgam, said the attack was "Pakistani terrorists" who targeted innocent tourists in south Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters in Nowshera, Raina said, "Pakistani terrorists have carried out a cowardly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, South Kashmir. Cowardly Pakistani terrorists cannot face the brave soldiers of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and our paramilitary forces."

Last year, a doctor and six construction workers were shot dead when terrorists opened fire at a construction site in Gagangir in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned as dastardly and cowardly the attack on non-local laborers.

The terrorists opened fire in a camp where workers of a private company were working at an under-construction tunnel in the Gund area, and for about half an hour, they kept firing.
