Shruti Haasan Reacts to ‘Damsel in Distress’ Tag for Coolie Role: Shruti Haasan is enjoying the success of her recent released Coolie. Released in theatres on August 14, the gangster drama has Rajinikanth in the lead role, and is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. On Friday, Shruti had done an AMA session on her Instagram handle during which someone asked her whether it is right that her character, Preethi in the movie, is depicted as a damsel in distress.

What Shruti said
Shruti posted the question on her Instagram Stories, which read, “Don't you think Preethi's portrayal as a damsel in distress is unfair?” In response, Shruti said in the caption, “She was in distress and it is someone else's vision. Not about fair or unfair.”
About her job at Coolie
Coolie is the journey of a former labor union leader, Deva(Rajinikanth), in vying to find answers to the sudden demise of his friend Rajasekhar(Sathyaraj). Preethi is the daughter of Rajasekhar who then makes use of Deva to take revenge over the death of her father. Her role in the film gets kidnapped severally.

In between, Shruti also answered questions of other fans and said her least preferred colour is Yellow and she had plans to do more Tamil movies in the near future.
Ahead of the release, Shruti had talked to HT in an interview where she spoke about what prompted her to take up the project. "When a project like this comes to you with an actor like that, a director like that, it’s already exciting. But I really liked the character of Preethi and what she brought to the story,” she said.
Coolie additionally features Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Upendra and Aamir Khan. The makers of the film are Sun Pictures and the music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. It was released in the cinema hall on 14 of August and was to compete with Ayan Mukerji War 2. It earned 150 crore globally in a day. In India the film has earned over 230 crores so far.
