The US President Joe Biden calls out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ending speculations and criticism
The call indicates that the new U.S. administration aims to maintain close ties with Israel that were strengthened during Donald Trump’s presidential tenure.
Finally, the US President Joe Biden called over phone the Middle East leader, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the first time as the President yesterday. The call and the tweet with his picture holding the phone by the Israeli PM, ended all the speculations.
.The two talked for an hour as the press statement from the White House, confirmed, saying the leaders discussed “the importance of continued close consultation on regional security issues, including Iran.”
President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed the future advancement of the peace accords, the Iranian threat and regional challenges, and agreed to continue their dialogue.
The call indicates that the new U.S. administration aims to maintain close ties with Israel that were strengthened during Donald Trump’s presidential tenure. The press statement also noted that “The President emphasized U.S. support for the recent normalization of relations between Israel and countries in the Arab and Muslim world. He underscored the importance of working to advance peace throughout the region, including between Israelis and Palestinians.”
“Together, they affirmed their shared interest in continued strategic cooperation to confront the many challenges facing the region,” the release said.
This is to be noted that the critics had accused Biden of snubbing the leader of a top US ally in the Middle East. While the White House had denied that US President was intentionally snubbing Israeli PM by failing to include him in an early round of phone calls to foreign leaders after joining the office on January 20.
However, Netanyahu’s press statement said that he and Biden “noted their longstanding personal connection and said that they would work together to continue strengthening the steadfast alliance between Israel and the U.S.” Biden also “commended Prime Minister Netanyahu on his leadership in the fight against the coronavirus,” His statement read, “the two exchanged ideas on ways to deal with the pandemic.”
While it is not yet clear how the diplomatic relations between Isreal and the US turns out to be, it would be interesting to note the reactions of the critics of both, especially in view of their orientation towards the human rights violation internally and across the globe.
