ITR Due Date 2025: Filing Deadline Ends Today, Key Things Taxpayers Must Know
The I-T Department has approved that the submission of income tax returns to you will be on September 15, last date of AY25-26 (FY24-25). Taxpayers have been encouraged to file in time to avoid matters that come in late.
The deadline to submit the ITR of AY 2025-26 is 15 September, today, and the Income Tax Department has notified that more than 6 crores returns had been submitted till this day.
Income Tax Department confirmed on Sunday night that there will be no extension of income tax filling deadline that still stands at 15 September.

The deadline still has a couple of hours to run, but speculation is high on whether the deadline will be again extended. Nonetheless, the I-T Department has refuted rumours on the extension of ITR deadline.
ITR filing deadline
In May, the Income Tax Department published that the due date to submit ITR under Assessment Year 2025-26 (i.e. FY 2024-25) will be September 15, 2025, instead of July 31, 2025, owing to the comprehensive changes proposed both in the announced ITRs, as well as based on the time to prepare an ITR system and implement ITR utilities in AY25-26.

The guide to file ITR online
- Go to the official income tax department and enter your User ID and password. The first time tax filers will be required to register with PAN, Aadhaar among other related details.
- After logging in, then you have to click on e-file -Income Tax Returns- File Income Tax Return.
- Select the year of assessment (AY25-26) and the mode of filing that you want.
- Select your status, i.e. an individual taxpayer; an Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) or Others and then click on Continue- Select your ITR form- Regime (old or new).
- View Personal Information information that is already filled in and make amendments where necessary. Once done, click on Proceed.
- After computing you have the option of paying now or later. You can also have a look at whether you are eligible to be refunded or not.
- After paying the tax (assuming that there is one), go to Preview Return -Proceed To Preview -Proceed To Validation.
- A message will be received that the e-filing was a success and the ITR verification form is to be downloaded.
