Pune Techie’s ‘Friend’ Accused of Rape: Victim Took Selfie and Sent Typed Threat, Say Police

Pune Techie’s ‘Friend’ Accused of Rape: The suspect who was arrested and charged with the rape of an IT professional in Pune at her own residence was her friend and not a stranger who managed to get access to the house posing as a courier delivery person, police said on Friday leading to doubt in her personal version of the crime.
Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said it was the woman herself who posed with him in a selfie and wrote an intimidating message in her phone.
"They know each other for a couple of years and belong to the same community," he said.

22-year-old lady had stated that a man who pretended to be a courier delivery agent in her flat in Kondhwa area and had raped her on Wednesday evening when she was alone. She fainted, and, she said, when she came to herself, he was gone.
Prior to parting, the accused clicked a selfie on her phone where her back and some portion of his face can be seen and left her a message that he had taken her pictures and would publish them on social media in case she complained of the incident, she said to the police.
However when the police apprehended the suspect who was a well qualified professional, they discovered that it was the woman herself who took the selfie which was depicted that his face was visible, altered it and suggested the supposed threatening messages too.

She had not been rendered unconscious with spray chemicals (as it was previously suspected), Kumar told.
She herself clicked a selfie with him and then we are told the woman had typed out a threatening message in her cell phone, police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told, according to a report published by ANI.
"We are still ascertaining why the victim made allegations of rape and it is still under investigation as the girl's mental state is not good at present," the commissioner said.
"The rape part is still under investigation," he added.
