CM Fadnavis Declares: Won’t Tolerate Hooliganism in the Name of Language’ in Marathi Row

CM Fadnavis Declares: Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra has stated that there is a zero tolerance policy towards hooliganism in the name of Marathi pride, and he went on to state that the perpetrators of the melee witnessed in the Mira road episode would be penalized. The food stall owner was slapped by seven members of Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the whole episode was recorded in the camera.

This video became viral on social media, which caused notices to the men. Later a case was filed against them. Addressing the issue, Fadnavis informed the reporters on Friday that it does not hurt to be proud of the Marathi language in Maharashtra.
"But if someone indulges in hooliganism due to language, we will not tolerate it. If someone beats up people on the basis of language, this will not be tolerated," the Chief Minister added.

"The police have filed an FIR and taken action on the incident, and if anyone creates such a language dispute in future, legal action will be taken. We are proud of our Marathi, but injustice cannot be done to any language of India in this manner; we will have to keep this in mind," he added.
"And sometimes I am surprised that these people embrace English and create disputes over Hindi. What kind of thinking is this and what kind of action is this? Therefore, strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands," Fadnavis further said.

There were a number of people in the viral video present at the scene, who engaged the vendor in a fight, some of them even wearing a scarf with the logo of Raj Thackeray headed MNS on it. The team of men apparently started the fight when one of the men went to order food and demanded that the food stall owner use Marathi to communicate.
The man became violent when his father-in-law complained of the demand made by the vendor. Soon, other group members succeeded in slapping the vendor several times as captured in the video recording.

On Deputy CM Eknath Shinde ending his speech with "Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra, and Jai Gujarat," CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "I want to remind everyone that earlier too, when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue was unveiled at Chikodi, Sharad Pawar had said 'Jai Maharashtra, Jai Karnataka.' Does that mean Sharad Pawar loves Karnataka more and Maharashtra less?..."
