Yashasvi Jaiswal is fighting the most crucial Test series of his career so far but still, the 22-year-old carries the infectious enthusiasm and warmth that has now become an innate part of his character as well as his identity as a cricketer. Young opener, he has been one of the most promising players of India so far in the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, but on Day 2 at the Edgbaston, he was looked into the spotlight, but this time not as a cricketer, but as a human being.

Right before the play started in one day of the game, Jaiswal was seen conversing with an airy moment with a former Sri Lanka captain and the director of cricket of the Rajasthan Royals team- Kumar Sangakkara. The two chatted a few moments by the boundary ropes and, as they did so, Jaiswal leaped up in sheer elation and tossed his arms around the senior cricketer in an unplanned hug as whatever Sangakkara had said pleased him hugely.
Sangakkara was not one to miss out on the energy of the youngster and he reciprocated with a wide grin on his face. Dhruv Jurel, who was present there, could not help laughing at the impulsive act indicating at the playfulness of Jaiswal.
Jaiswal, who had almost scored the second hundred of the series in Birmingham with a margin of 13 runs has been the foundation at the top order. His controlled 87 carrried sharp delivery and daring purpose, which had given India early control of the match.

India, which had been inserted to bat in overcast conditions, had walked away with a first-innings total of 587 on the back of Shubman Gill lowest score at 269 and steady efforts of Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42). In reply England took a stumble at the beginning. Akash Deep, who is being used in place of rested spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, smashed the top order with his fiery opening spell.
He, with Mohammed Siraj, had the hosts tottering at 13-3 before Root and Brook got hold of the innings to leave the visitors at 77-3 at the end of the second day.
