The fire started around 1.10 pm. The fire was restricted to wooden sheets, furniture, and construction materials at a depth of 40-50 feet inside the station, causing heavy smoke in the area. It was fully brought under control by 2:30 pm.
The BKC metro station is a part of Mumbai's first underground metro or Aqua line from Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex. The stretch between Aarey Colony and BKC, which stands at 12.69 km, is a part of the 33.5-km long Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro line 3, which received its final clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).

The ten-station stretch of Aarey-BKC will connect Terminal 1 and 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova Metro Line 1 at Marol Naka station.
The 26 underground stations of the 33.5 kilometre long Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor would have about eight stations connected with the suburban railway, other Mumbai Metro lines, and existing modes of transport, including major rail terminals like Mumbai CSMT and Churchgate.
The new metro line would also connect six major employment and business hubs: Nariman Point, Cuffe Parade, Fort, Lower Parel, BKC, and SEEPZ/MIDC. Autorities said that the line will offer easy access to more than 30 educational institutes, 13 hospitals, 14 religious places and 30 recreational facilities and areas which are not connected with the suburban rail network, such as Kalbadevi, Girgoan, Worli, and the international and domestic airports.
