Guru Nanak Jayanti 2024: According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, bank holidays are decided after considering national and state-specific festivals and events.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2024: On November 15, Friday, India celebrates Guru Nanak Jayanti, which marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. On the occasion of this special day, several banks across India will remain shut down.
As per the official notice, a bank holiday has been declared because of the celebration of Guru Nanak’s birthday in several states on Friday. It is also known as Guru Nanak Gurupurab and is celebrated on the same day as Kartik Purnima.
Guru Nanak is the founder of Sikhism and one of the most revered Sikh Gurus. His birthday is celebrated on a large scale in North Indian states. It is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Katak.

However, the date of the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti varies every year depending on the lunar calendar.
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, bank holidays are decided after considering national and state-specific festivals and events. Furthermore, second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays are also considered while preparing bank holidays.
Though Guru Nanak Jayanti is not observed across the entire country, banks only in some states, especially northern states, will remain closed.

As per the official notice, banks in states such as Mizoram, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal will remain shut down on Friday, November 15, on the occasion of Guru Nanak's birthday.
As the banks remain closed in these states, customers can still make use of financial services such as ATMs, digital banking, and UPI platforms.
Furthermore, on November 18 and 23, banks will remain closed on the occasion of Kanakadasa Jayanti (Karnataka) and Seng Kutsnem (Meghalaya).
