IND vs WI 2nd Test Live: India began Day 2 of the 2nd Test against West Indies on a disappointing note as Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out, 25 runs short of a well-deserved double hundred. Jaiswal was dismissed after a terrible mix-up with captain Shubman Gill in the first hour of play at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Yashasvi could only add 2 runs to his overnight score of 173 before being run out by Tagenarine Chanderpaul. He was distraught, burying his head in his hands after the mix up. He was also seen arguing with his captain, trying to figure out where the fault lay in the communication.
As early as the 2nd over of the day, Jaiswal pushed one towards mid off and set off for a single. But he had timed it so well that the ball reached Chanderpaul at mid off almost instantly. Chanderpaul collected it cleanly and threw it towards the striker’s end. Yashasvi was already halfway down the pitch but got no response from Gill who was looking to save his wicket.

Jaiswal tried to turn back and dash for the crease but was well short. Wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach fumbled for a moment while collecting the throw, but managed to dislodge the bails just in time before Jaiswal could make his ground. There was a moment of confusion as Jaiswal asked the umpires to check if the wicketkeeper had completed the dismissal cleanly, but the third umpire confirmed the on-field decision.
Jaiswal looked heartbroken as he walked back to the pavilion. The crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium was silent, sharing the disappointment of seeing him miss out on a double hundred.
The mix-up was not Gill’s fault as he did not attempt to respond to Jaiswal’s call. It was an unnecessary risk, especially so early in the day.

But Jaiswal got a standing ovation from the Delhi crowd. He had brought up his 7th Test hundred on Friday, and for the 5th time in his career, he converted it into a big score. His 175 is now the 4th highest score by an Indian Test batsman to get out run out. Sanjay Manjrekar tops that list, getting run out for 219 against Pakistan in Lahore in 1989.
Despite Jaiswal’s dismissal, India continued to score freely. Gill got his 2nd fifty of the series with some lovely boundaries while Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was promoted to No. 5, looked solid at the crease.
West Indies were struggling with their discipline in the field after the runout. Nitish was given a life on 20 when Anderson Phillip dropped him off Jomel Warrican’s bowling. Warrican, who had taken both Indian wickets on Friday, was looking dejected after the chance went down.
India went past the 400-run mark for the loss of three wickets about 45 minutes before the lunch interval on Day 2.
