'Desperation': A social media post by BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma, apparently targeting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has evoked sharp criticism from Congress leaders in Himachal Pradesh.
On Thursday, Sharma shared a photograph of the chief minister holding a sketch of his portrait, accompanied by the caption "Pradesh ka itihas mein pehli bar, cartoon ka sketch" (First time in the history of the state, a sketch of a cartoon).
Reacting to the post, Naresh Chauhan, Principal Adviser (Media) to the Chief Minister, called it unfortunate. He suggested that Sharma's 'desperation' is only understood by him, questioning why he feels so 'troubled'.

Talking to the press, Chauhan said what a lot of people in Himachal know already that's the state is known for its old school politeness. He stressed that members of the assembly should treat the Chief Minister with respect & have a sense of camaraderie amongst themselves. That was his take on the post.
He reckons that such posts are unlikely to hurt the Chief Minister's popularity, also adding that criticism should be based on facts rather than just making personal attacks. People in general just don't take kindly to that sort of thing.
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh also jumped in to say something on the issue. He said we need to hold onto the state's traditions & values. That should be our priority when things like this come up.
"I believe that accusations and counter-accusations between the ruling party and the opposition should focus on facts and issues. However, personal attacks in the political landscape should be avoided," he stated.

Responding to the criticism, Sudhir Sharma told PTI on Friday, "I have not mentioned the name of the chief minister in my post, and if Chauhan or anyone else thinks it is the chief minister, that is their interpretation."
The post has got people going back & forth on social media, with some people calling out Sharma for being way too personal in his attack, & others just lamenting the state of politics in Himachal these days.
Sharma was one of the six Congress MLAs who crossed over & voted for the BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha elections last February. He later jumped ship to the BJP, & won his seat in the Dharamshala assembly constituency.
