The Delhi government has taken a unique initiative to improve the living standards of beggars who are helpless, for which a plan is being circulated. Under this scheme, beggars will be brought into the mainstream by imparting skill development training. As per the government's plan, training will be given to the beggars near the roads, and historical buildings. At present 50 beggars are being taught the work of dyeing and painting along with making jam-jelly in two shelter homes. The government will also provide employment to these people after training.
The Delhi government is currently experimenting with its plan. In Roshanara Road, the shelter home and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Boards are giving training to 25 male and 25 female beggars respectively. If this effort is successful, then the government will implement it on a large scale. In which training programs will be started for beggars at different places in Delhi.
In the year 2021, the government conducted a survey to collect information about beggars, in which the total number of beggars was found to be 20,719. After which it was announced to start this program to improve the standard of living of the beggars. The beggars who complete this training will also be given a certificate. On the basis of this, the government will give financial help to those who start their work.
