Chinese Students’ DIY Two-Stage Water Rocket Launch": A video of Chinese students launching 2 stage water rocket has gone viral. Watch it.
In the short video, they launch a rocket made from a plastic bottle. Propelled by water pressure, the rocket goes up and halfway through the ascent, the 2nd stage separates and continues to go up. As the rocket comes down, a parachute deploys and the device lands smoothly.
The video was shared on X by user Tansu Yegen with the caption, "In China, students made a two-stage rocket using a cola bottle and water pressure."
Since being posted, the video has gotten over 1.7 million views. Commenters praised the students’ precision, teamwork and understanding of physics.

Reacting to the video, one user wrote, "This is fantastic and mind boggling! Well done kids."
"Such a nice experiment and great learning experience for kids," commented another.
"Yeah this was a science experiment in my school, we used to build our own air pressure rockets and compete on whose rocket goes higher. In fact, most kids in India probably have done this at least once since the 90's”, said another.
"Incredible!!! I used to do it when I was a kid... in the 70s... it's nothing special... unfortunately the new generations have regressed and only know how to stay on their cell phones all day”, commented another user.

A retired engineering teacher chimed in with a professional view, stating, "I’ve probably seen 5000 water rocket launches in the past 25 years. This is very cool. Nice two-stage with successful deployment of a parachute. The parachutes are quite tricky."
Notice they used basic materials like plastic bottle and water to build the 2 stage water rocket. The rocket works on water and air pressure.
1st stage propels the rocket up by releasing pressurized water and at certain height, 2nd stage detaches and continue to go up using stored pressure. Parachute is deployed during descent and the rocket lands safely. This is a complex setup that demonstrates physics principles like Newton’s laws of motion, air resistance and pressure.
