Chicago Woman Claims Everyone Wears Fur Winter Coats Wrong, Internet Reacts
The viral video by a Chicago woman argues that fur-lined hoods should be put on folded, a fact that elicited controversy on the internet
Winter coats are not an issue of contention. You zip and pull on gloves and come out. However, a single viral video has succeeded in making fur-lined hoods an actual internet controversy with one Chicago creator arguing that we have all been wearing them wrong all our lives. The debate began when the content creator Jessica Alzamora shared the video that went viral on social media.
The simple thing is that she made a point. The fur-trimmed hoods that people keep unzipped because they want to be fashionable are never intended to flatten behind the head or hang loosely around the face. They are supposed to be brought in, and tightened.

The assumption that triggered the argument
Alzamora, in her video, states that the hood is meant to cover the sides of the face and ears forming a barrier against cold air. Zipped right to the top and folded down, the hood keeps out the wind and traps the heat, eliminating the necessity of additional layers. Keep the door open, she insists and a cold wind rushes right through, and it is the design that is in vain.
The concept struck quickly since it contradicted a common practice. Most individuals use fur lined hoods as accessories, as something to provide a show to a coat instead of functionality. The logic of that reasoning was reversed by Alzamora to the point where the hood was a practical item prior to being a style option.
How the internet reacted
Surprisingly not all were persuaded. There were viewers who acknowledged that the explanation was good and had never wondered why the hood was constructed in that manner. Others retaliated with vigor citing that winter fashion never was just about being warm.

"But it is nicer this way only," wrote a viewer. "But this ruins the whole look," pointed out another one.
"Now I have to go find that piece. Thank you," commented a user.
Another one added, "I literally learn that im doing life wrong every single day".
Winter wear: functional versus trendy
Design wise, the argument holds. Originally, fur-trimmed hoods were designed to suit the extreme weather conditions where the face protection was more of importance than looks. Tucking the hood in forms an organized shield, which is a little more technical outwear than street style.
It does not mean that everybody has to wear his coat in a similar manner. An open hood is satisfactory on short walks or a fast trip to the store. It can be seen that during freezing mornings, long commutes, or days of traveling, it can be a significant point to wear it in the way it has been designed.
It does not mean that everybody has been doing it wrong. The reason is that winter clothes are constructed with intent even though fashion is sometimes deaf to that. After all, there is always room to be warm.
